The species is both a basidiolichen and an agaric. The inconspicuous lichenized thallus contains single-celled green algae in the genus Coccomyxa, interconnected by a loose network of hyphae. The fruit-bodies are nonlichenized, similar to omphalinoid mushrooms. Found among mosses on acid heaths and moors. Common in Scotland
