Gymnopus aquosus (Bull.) Antonín & Noordel. (1997)

A spring species that is very similar to Gymnopus dryophilus and quite likely that some records are misidentified as that species. The reference books say it has pink rhyzomorphs but this is not a consistent feature; they can be white, as in the specimen illustrated. The main difference is in the swollen base of the stipe which is not a feature of the Russet Toughshank
