Fungi Outer Hebrides

Phylum: Basidiomycota   Family: Cortinariaceae

Cortinarius casimirii (Velen.) Huijsman

A rare species in Britain with fewer than 30 records. On the continent it is gregarious with hardwoods and also Picea, and noted for its violaceous and red colours on the apex of the stipe. This collection lacks those colours but is in accord with some collections from Scandinavia
