Bunodophoron melanocarpum (Sw.) Wedin

Type: Fruticose

A distinctive coral-like thallus, with flattened main branches ending in short, cylindrical finger-like branches. The black apothecia are formed on the tips of the branches and release a powdery mass of spores. The stronghold is north-west Scotland where it is common. Found with mosses on siliceous rocks
