Foliose Lichens

Foliose lichens have a flattened, leaf-likje appearance, usually with a distinct upper and lower surface. They are often loosely attached to the substrate, either by rhizines, a mat of fungal hyphae (tomentum) or one or more holdfasts. Some species are closely attached to the substrate and superficially may resemble a crustose type.
