Fungi Outer Hebrides

Phylum: Basidiomycota   Family: Cortinariaceae

Galerina vittiformis (Fr.) Singer

Hairy-leg Bell

Common amongst mosses, often associated with woodland. A small species with a conical to convex cap and long equal stipe. Although it does have some silky fibrils on the stipe, the common name does seem rather contrived. Earlier taxonomy had the species split into several varieties and forms but now regarded as one variable species
