Fungi Outer Hebrides

Phylum: Basidiomycota   Family: Hygrophoraceae

Porpolomopsis calyptriformis (Berkeley) Bresinsky

Pink waxcap

Another attractive and apt name is the ballerina. Rose-coloured, sometimes with a hint of lilac, the stipe is white lightly suffused with pink. It has a wide European distribution but in most places it’s rare. Found in unimproved grassland on base-rich and acidic substrates.
