Common in all types of woodland, often in large groups or rings. The woodland-floor litter is gathered round the mycelium when lifted. Strongly decurrent gills and an aromatic smell all help to identify it. This is a new record for the Outer Hebrides, largely due to the paucity of woodland on the islands
