Galerina hypnorum (Schrank) Kühner

Moss Bell

A variable and confused species definition by virtue of the leading authors having different interpretations. The main questions - are the spores smooth and calyptrate or not? I follow Smith & Singer here as they fit better with the collections I have examined. We may have a species complex, but I suspect two different species are being described. The other is possibly Galerina calyptrospora which has been synonymised on the British checklist with G. hypnorum. I agree with Funga Nordica that it's a good species with pronounced calyptration and larger spores. Because of the confusion its distribution is not clear
